may they live in freedom ii

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS • 36x36" • $3,200

STATUS: AVAILABLE

Before being at the 2007 Spring Creek Basin helicopter roundup by the BLM, where I saw the mustangs lose their freedom, I was already concerned that they stay free. Watching them in their family units in the open space, free of tack and rider, is something I never had seen before. I hoped that the mustangs would stay free. It was a beautiful sight to see.  I painted a series of May They Live In Freedom. With this one, II, I painted wet into wet, moving my palette knife around with the different colors, sometimes slightly mixing them, other times leaving the pure color untouched. To bring the focus to this mustang’s face, I lightened it substantially, leaving the darker mauve and black to surround it. Since I painted this one in 2006, a year before the 2007 roundup, I did not yet know the names of the horses.
